Beavercreek Native Appears in
Events writerB writes "Mike Mathieu, a Beavercreek native, is bringing his sketch comedy act, The Cody Rivers Show, to his hometown as a fundraiser for the Beavercreek Community Theatre.

Mathieu and Andrew Connor, a Columbus native, have been receiving rave reviews since launching the two-man comedy act in September 2004.

They have included their hometowns in their current cross-country tour and they will present “Flammable People” at 7:30 p.m. July 6 at the Beavercreek Community Theatre, 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road.

Mathieu, a 1996 Beavercreek High School graduate, and Connor met as students at Ohio Wesleyan University. They moved to Bellingham, Washington after graduation to work at the iDiOM Theater, where the director offered them a regular late-night slot and The Cody Rivers Show premiered.

Initially created around an imaginary character that Mathieu created, the show no longer features Cody Rivers but the name has remained.

The show’s style is commonly identified as sketch comedy, a format widely known through such shows as “Saturday Night Live.” However, Mathieu is quick to point out that The Cody Rivers Show “is extremely different.”

Of the over 100 skits that they have written, not one of them is based on “a particular real person or event in the world as we know it. No celebrity send-ups, no parodies, no impersonations. We continually explore the ways we can surprise, amuse, and incorporate the audience,” said the son of Wayne and Mary Mathieu of Beavercreek.

A portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit Phase II of the Beavercreek Community Theatre’s construction, which includes backstage construction and a lighting system. The $150,000 fund drive was kicked off with a $2,000 donation from the DP&L Foundation.

For more information on The Cody Rivers Show, visit its Web site at www.codyrivers.com and for tickets, which are $10, visit the BCT Web site at www.bctheatre.org, send email requests to boxoffice@bctheatre.org or call (937) 429-4737 and leave a message. A second show, at 9 p.m., may be added if the first show sells out.

Doug Lloyd will be directing and he will be assisted by musical director John Johns and choreographer Stacy Gear-Schindel.

Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute song and be prepared to read from the script and learn and perform a short dance routine.

Beavercreek Community Theatre Presents
Events writerB writes "

Lots of money, greedy stepchildren and a host of social misfits combine for a delightful comedy when Beavercreek Community Theatre presents John Patrick’s “The Curious Savage.”

Jo Ferguson of Beavercreek stars as Ethyl Savage, the slightly eccentric, wealthy widow who wants to use her money to help others achieve their dreams, much to the chagrin of her stepchildren, who want the money for themselves.

Comedy ensues as the stepchildren, played by Pam McGinnis of Oakwood, Jerry Buck of Yellow Springs and Bruce Green of Beavercreek, put her in a sanatorium in hopes of bringing her to her senses. Instead, it is in the sanitarium that Mrs. Savage meets the very people she wants to help. Comedy reigns as her newfound friends conspire to get rid of the selfish stepchildren.

Alain Alejandro of Englewood, John Johns of Dayton, Christa Williams of Franklin, Jim Lockwood of Huber Heights and Beavercreek residents Megan McKenzie, Pat Phillips and Carly Scheu portray the patients and staff of the sanitarium, “The Cloisters.”

The show will be presented on 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays from May 4 through 13 at Beavercreek Community Theatre located within the Lofino Adults Enrichment and Cultural Arts Center at 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. BCT members receive a $2 discount and there is a group discount of $1 per ticket when 10 or more tickets are purchased at the same time for the same performance.

Tickets can be reserved by calling BCT at (937) 429-4737 and leaving a message or by e-mailing boxoffice@bctheatre.org. Tickets can also be purchased online, using a credit card, through the Beavercreek Community Theatre Web site at www.bctheatre.org.
